On August 27, 1776 the Americans and the British fought at Long Island. Washington positioned his troops on the western end of Long Island in anticipation of the British arrival. Washington positioned his troops on the western end of the Island. Soon the Americans were surrounded and had to retreat from Long Island. When the British realized that the Americans had retreated, The British tried to track them down.
If you can see the first picture above, those are the Colonist fighting against the British in the Battle of Long Island.
If you can see the Second picture (Map) there is more red than there is blue. Red are the British and the blue are the Colonist. Sadly, the Colonist lost this battle because the British were surrounding colonist so colonists had no way to escape. Colonist lost this battle.
